This is the third selection from my old digital colour image archive chosen because they actually look/feel better in monochrome than they did in colour [in my opinion].
Quite excited about the resulting collection this time because, although I made no more than gut choices and how to process them, this selection has a distinctly different feel about it from the last one, which suggests that something has changed.
Am now beginning to get some inkling of the factors that make a better black and white image as opposed to colour and developing a workflow to optimise such an image. There seems to be a lot more flexibility and potential converting a RAW file on the computer rather than letting the camera 'guess' at the best compression options but the important thing for me to develop is the ability make that decision ‘black and white or colour’ before shooting the image even if I don't use it in the future.
NOTE TO SELF: Don't get to cerebral/analytical about the whole process. Leave the subconscious free to do most of the work - just provide it with the raw material to build on.
